What is an RSS Feed?

The term 'RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed' is used to describe online content that is frequently updated by a website. Feeds are used to keep up to date with the latest news stories from the Guernsey Financial Services Commission ("GFSC").

RSS Feeds are free and easy to use. Once you have subscribed to a feed, you will receive automatic updates of all the latest GFSC content direct to your email or browser as soon as it has been added.

How do I start using Feeds?

You will need a piece of software called a newsreader if your browser does not come with one pre-installed. As there are many different types of news reader, it is important to choose one which will work with the browser on your computer.

Alternatively, you can subscribe to an RSS feed using Microsoft Outlook.

How do I subscribe to a Feed using Microsoft Outlook?

  1. Go to the GFSC.gg RSS Feeds webpage. 
  2. Click the RSS feed you wish to subscribe to.
  3. Copy the URL from the address bar.
  4. Open Outlook.
  5. Click File.
  6. Click Account Settings.
  7. Click the RSS feeds tab.
  8. Click New.
  9. Paste URL.
  10. Click Add.

How do I subscribe to a Feed using Edge?

Currently Microsoft Edge does not include a pre-installed news reader, though this is planned in the future. In the meantime you can install a third party news reader or save the RSS feed as a favourite. 

How do I subscribe to a Feed using Safari?

  1. Go to the GFSC.gg RSS Feeds webpage. 
  2. Click the RSS feed you wish to subscribe to. This will show the most recent content related to that topic.
  3. Click the Add (+) icon on the address bar.
  4. Type a name for this feed and choose a folder within Safari, either Bookmark Bar or Bookmark Menu to create the feed in. You can also choose to add it to another collection if you have created one.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Your subscribed feed will now appear in the 'Bookmarks' section of the Navigation bar. You can change your settings by clicking Safari, then Preferences and choosing the RSS tab.

How do I subscribe to a Feed using Chrome?

Currently, Chrome does not include a pre-installed news reader. You may, however, install a third party news reader or save the RSS feed as a favourite.

How do I add a Feed to the Favourites bar?

  1. To add a feed to the Favourites bar, subscribe to the feed, and click the Add to Favourites Bar check box in the Subscribe to this Feed dialog box.
  2. If you have already subscribed to the feed, you can click the Add to Favourites Bar button to add the feed to the Favourites bar.

Your subscribed feed will now appear in your Favourites bar and when clicked will display the most recent GFSC content for you to explore. It can also be edited and renamed by right clicking it.

How do I remove RSS Feeds in Outlook?

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click File.
  3. Click Account Settings.
  4. Click the RSS feeds tab.
  5. Select the RSS feed you want to remove
  6. Click Remove.

How do I remove RSS Feeds in Safari?

  1. Click Bookmarks.
  2. Click Show All Bookmarks.
  3. Choose either Bookmark Bar or Bookmarks Menu from the left hand menu.
  4. You can edit or remove feeds by right clicking on them.

How do I remove RSS Feeds in Favourites bar?

  1. Locate the RSS feed item in your favourites.
  2. Right click on the RSS feed you would like to remove.
  3. Select the option delete/ edit as required.
